Question: What versions of AutoCAD does GPSXCAD support?
Answer: There are versions of GPSXCAD for AutoCAD 2000 and above.

Question: Does GPSXCAD require AutoCAD Map or Land Development Desktop?
Answer: No GPSXCAD does not require AutoCAD Map or Land Development Desktop. GPSXCAD can run with all versions of AutoCAD

Question: Does GPSXCAD run in AutoCAD LT?
Answer: No GPSXCAD requires the full version of AutoCAD.

Question: Does AutoCAD run on Tablet PCs.
Answer: Yes, Windows XP Tablet PC Edition" is an extension to Windows XP Professional, a Tablet PC can run any existing Windows application including AutoCAD. GPS Requirements, Connection and Port Configurations:

Question: What are the requirements for the GPS reciever?
Answer: The following are the GPS requirements. See GPS Compatiblity chart.

  • GPS receiver with NMEA 0183 v. 2 output or higher.
  • Serial output, USB with serial driver or PCMCIA with serial emulation
  • Mouse type USB GPS with serial driver.

Question: Does GPSXCAD support Bluetooth GPS?
Answer: Yes, Bluetooth GPS are supported. Bluetooth are assigned serial communication ports. To check the location of your Bluetooth port go to Computer Management|Device Manager in the Control Panel. See the figure below.

Question: How do I know which COM port to select in the GPSXCAD setup?
Answer: Ports are given a numerial assignment. This information is listed on your computer go to Computer Management|Device Manager in the Control Panel. See the figure below.

Question: My PC only has USB ports how do I connect it to a GPS serial cable?
Answer: You will need a USB to Serial Port adapter. These come with a driver which will add a virtual serial port to your PC. As with the other ports they will be listed in Computer Management|Device Manager in the Control Panel. See the figure below. The Usb/Serial USB-HID->COM device(COM4) is a virtual serial port used by this machine.

Question: I have a USB mouse type GPS, does GPSXCAD support it?
Answer: Yes, the GPS will come with a driver which will add a virtual serial port to your PC. This serial port will be listed in Computer Management|Device Manager in the Control Panel. See the figure below. This port will be listed as a Usb/Serial USB-HID-> COM device.

Question: I have a PCMCIA enabled laptop computer and a Compact Flash GPS, does GPSXCAD support this configuration?
Answer: Yes, the GPS will come with a driver which will add a virtual serial port to your PC. This serial port will be listed in Computer Management|Device Manager in the Control Panel. See the figure below. This port will be listed as a Usb/Serial USB-HID-> COM device.

Question: Where can I get cables to connect GPS?
